Stuff Black People Hate: Nigger

Nigger. The word is foul. It is at the very tip top of a tall pyramid of racial slurs used for black people – the people for whom more flagrant racial slurs exist than any other race.

Figure 1: The Big Damn Pyramid of Black Lexical Hate

Notwithstanding the atrociousness of the word itself, ‘Nigger’ has had a very interesting history. It naturally started out as a dismissive term used by whites to describe blacks, and it didn’t even necessarily have racist connotations. It remained in this form until the 19th century, when the term slowly transformed from racial to racist. The racist connotation of ‘nigger’ came to a head during the Civil Rights movement, by whose time the word had gone well beyond descriptive and dismissive, becoming instead an angry and proactive way to harshly degrade blacks (in parallel with the term ‘boy’ applied to grown fucking men).

Then came the hip hop generation, and the sh*t got complicated. Namely, black people started using the word everywhere from the corner store to the recording studio in what has widely been regarded as an effort to ‘take back’ the word and remove its harmful power. However good the intentions were in doing this, a single clear negative consequence arose…

Well-meaning whites started thinking it was OK to say it, too.

Oddly enough, when black people started using the word, non-blacks (whites in particular) wanted to convince themselves that the word ceased to be as a racial slur, and that it was OK for everyone to use it. Ignoring the patent weirdness of so-called non-racist white people being so eager to call black people ‘niggers’, every black person in America has certainly heard a non-black person make the following statement with complete and utter sincerity:

“I don’t get it. I mean, if black people can say it then why can’t I?”

This person is usually named ‘Chad’ and looks like this guy:

Figure 3: Chad Biffington Toddwell IV

Before I address Chad, I need to explain something. Black people, like all people, have what’s called a boiling point. A boiling point is a person’s psychological threshold which, when crossed, causes that person to lose control of his or her normally functioning self. Each time a person is angered, fucked with, betrayed, or otherwise ill-treated, that person gets closer to his boiling point. Interestingly, race tends to be the determining factor in the behavior that results when a person actually reaches his boiling point.

When Chad asks a black person “why can’t I say ‘nigger’”, 95% of black people reach their boiling point IMMEDIATELY. Contrary to popular belief, though, a black person who reaches his boiling point will usually not shoot you, shank you, or date your daughter…he will simply shut down intellectually. A blank, idiotic look creeps over his face, after which he will try to give you a response, but the words simply don’t come. He shakes his head and walks away exasperated, leaving Chad with the mistaken impression that he has a good point.

Fortunately, I’ve heard the Chad Question so many times that I’ve developed a scripted response to it:

Chad: “I don’t get it. I mean, if black people can say it then why can’t I?”
Me: “Do you have a girlfriend?”
Chad: “Uh, yea…”
Me: “Do you f*** her?”
Chad: “…..yeah….”
Me: “Cool. Mind if I f*** her?”
Chad: “DUDE! NOT COOL!”
Me: “I don’t get it. I mean, if you can f*** her then why can’t I?”

Unfortunately, this response isn’t given nearly often enough, so now we’re at the point where white people are so comfortable with the word ‘nigger’ that it can be heard, uncensored, on television programs that won’t even allow vaginas (not women) to be referred to as ‘pussies’. Abso-f***ing-lutely amazing.

Barack Obama winning the presidency combined with newfound white comfort with the ‘N’ word will create the perfect storm of conditions for The Man to declare racism legally dead. After that, the only way we’ll be able to get them to examine their own inherent racism will be to show them pictures of my friends like this one and demand they recognize how angry/uncomfortable they became:

It started as a term whites used to dismiss blacks. Then hip hop came in, and the sh*t got complicated…

Can I borrow the “Chad Response” and see what happens to white people who try to use the N-word around me?

I enjoy abusing people’s delusions. It’s thankless work. Thanks for the article.

I like the post and I understand not wanting white people to us it, but I have a question. Why is it okay for any of us to use? Yeah, I know you said up top that it “has widely been regarded as an effort to ‘take back’ the word and remove its harmful power”, I just don’t get it. Maybe someone can help me understand, because to me removing the er from the end of nigg and adding an a doesn’t make it better. Also if the way it’s being use now takes away it’s harmful power, why does it still sting if say a Caucasian/Asian/Hispanic uses it?

Another article written by a stupid negro. Lets have a look at Africa…the continent with with the greatest wealth of natural resources on the world and the oldest civilization (although not civilized) known to man. Yet, those people still live in mud huts like they did 10,000 years ago. Every nation in the Caribbean that is now independent of their former European colonies is a disaster….Haiti, Jamaica, etc. And, now, negros are destroying most of America. Highest single moms=niggers. Highest sexually transmitted disease rate=niggers. High school dropouts=niggers. Cross racial crime=niggers. Highest ratio in prisons=niggers.
Why don’t you go and send some fish sandwiches and grape soda to Haiti. That might make you feel better about who you are.

I have one point to make and one big question which I will get to at the end of this comment. First the point, articles like this show a huge part of the race related problems in this country today. First off this article makes no race related sense. For starters f***ing someone’s girlfriend and saying a word are two completely different things. I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t let his white buddies f*** his girlfriend either (in other words not race biased.) He still never explained why white people based completely on the color of their skin cannot say the n word but black people based completely on the color of their skin can say the n word. Is that not the definition of race based descrimination. All I’m asking is if equality is all you want then why do you discriminate. If someone can give me a real answer in a calm manner it would be greatly appreciated.

I will gladly buy the author a boat ticket back to mother africa if he is willing to never come back! Otherwise respect the majority like every other country’s black populations and GET OVER IT.
I didn’t enslave any blacks. Nobody I know has ever owned a black. So why is it I should feel guilty about it? You have never been owned. You do not know anyone personally who has ever been owned.
So to the author, if you are black, asian, hispanic man or woman. You are a minority according to the gov’t. So if you would like to talk about equality, go apply to college. Enjoy the extra entrance points you get because you are not a WHITE MAN. SHUT UP.
How many jobs have been given to underqualified applicants because they are not white?
All in the name of equality. Makes sense to me. Don’t go get an education. No need. Enough dumb white people vote so you don’t have to!

To the ignorant posters above namely Oden, Bill, Odipherous, while you may never have personally owned a slave you still enjoy the benefits of living in a country where your ancestors were able to prosper due to the exploitation, oppression and degradation of a group of people. This goes way beyond slavery but that’s a whole history lesson. Only a fool would think that the effects of this centuries long institutionalized exploitation are not still in place. There is so much of our history that is ignored by American history. All three of you need to open some books and find out how much of your priviledged position in society you really owe to black people.

As far as being able to say n*gger (not that I give a crap what words you idiots use, because I for one give no words power over me) it’s just like white people to think you’re supposed to have everything on the planet. Why do you need the word n*gger? You clearly want it because you can’t have it. Sometimes when you’re inside a group you get priviliges that people outside the group don’t get, white people should know all about that.

Not that I use the word, but I think black people have earned the right to call ourselves whatever we want just by virtue of living and trying to survive in a country in which, until very recently, descrimination against black people was not only common place but perfectly legal. People blow me with the get over it already philosophy when black people are still overcoming effects of slavery and years of the legalized blocking of black economic empowerment.

Coming from an island myself and being sworn in as an American (so I have pedgire, LOL), you all are full of shit. The following can be found be Wikipedia, a little history about the word Nigger:Negro
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This article is about the historic term. For an overview of the subject, see Black people.
The word Negro is used in the English-speaking world to refer to a person of black ancestry or appearance, whether of African descent or not, prior to the shift in the lexicon of American and worldwide classification of race and ethnicity in the late 1960s. The word “negro” means “black” in Spanish and Portuguese, from the Latin niger (“black”) and Greek Νέγρος Négros (“black”). The usage was accepted as normal, even by people classified as Negroes, until the Civil Rights movement.
During the American Civil Rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s, some African American leaders in the United States objected to the word, preferring Black,[1] because they associated the word Negro with the long history of slavery, segregation, and discrimination that treated African Americans as second class citizens, or worse. During the 1960s Negro became considered to be a so-called “ethnic slur”.
The term “Negro” is now widely considered to be obsolete, and it is not commonly used. It is still used in some historical contexts, such as in the name of the United Negro College Fund. and the Negro league in sports.
Modern language uses: Black; additionally, Black African for people native to the African continent, and African American for people in U.S.A..
“Negro” superseded “colored” as the most polite terminology, at a time when “black” was more offensive.
The United States Census Bureau announced that Negro would be included on the 2010 United States Census, alongside “Black” and “African-American,” because some older Black Americans nevertheless self-identify with the term.
Around 1442 the Portuguese first arrived in sub-Saharan Africa while trying to find a sea route to India. The term negro, literally meaning “black”, was used by the Spanish and Portuguese as a simple description to refer to people. From the 18th century to the late 1960s, “negro” (later capitalized) was considered to be the proper English-language term for all people of sub-Saharan African origin.

The word “Negro” fell out of favor by the early 1970s in the United States after the Civil Rights movement. However, older African Americans from the older period of American life when “Negro” was widely considered to be acceptable, initially found the term “Black” more offensive than “Negro”. Evidence for the acceptability of “Negro” is in the continued use the word by historical African-American organizations and institutions such as the United Negro College Fund. In current English language usage, “Negro” is generally considered to be acceptable in a historical context, such as baseball’s Negro Leagues of the early and mid-20th century, or in the name of older organizations, as in Negro spirituals, the United Negro College Fund or the Journal of Negro Education. The U.S. Census now uses the grouping “Black, African-American or Negro.” The term “negro” is used in efforts to include older African Americans who more closely associate with the term. Yes, you can go on reading and reading. You can “label me” a: Anchor baby, Banana, Beaner, Chicano, Cholo, Hispanic, Mestizo, Nuyorican, Pachuco, Pink Panthers, Sudacas (Racist term in Spain), Taco, Vato, Wetback.
No one has the right to refer to another human being with a racial slur (being young black men to one aother. I am from one race, the human race. So are each and every one of you. (Of course I do stand above all of you by claiming the title of U.S. Marine, LOL). Wathc the movie HOME on YouTube, them let some one of your own skin color refer to you as a racial slur!

Oh by the way, people of all skin color – built this country poor white, black, yellow, red, brown people. Hell come to think of it, there’s white, black, yellow, red, brown dirt. I guess it is true, we come from dirt and return to dirt. Everyone is orginially from Africa (where DNA first came about, but I gues all you smart people knew that).
No there is no such thing as “taking back a word.” What everyone in this country owes to any is the real Americans, (the folks that where already here before the white, black, yellow, brown people built this country). Everyone should be offended by the word “Nigger”. Young Black men have not earned the right to use the word by way of skin color?! Please are you out of your mind or just a black racist?!
Have you ever wondered by on job applications there is the the question: Are you of Hispanic, African American, and so on….. Why don’t they just ask if you are willing to work hard and be good to one another? Is it really us against them? I just come from one race and as far as I know it’s the human race. And I share where I live on one llittle blue dot that floats in outer space called by human beings as planet Earth. This planet has limited resouces such as air, water, food. Where are you from? Maybe we can become friends?
