Breast I Ever Had

drake“Breast I Ever Had” Is Kanye West trying to help Drake break out of the poppy love ballad rapper mold or did he actually think he was making a good video while directing Best I ever had? Like many other young females I love Drake’s new single Best I ever had, but when I saw the video, I was shocked and disappointed. I thought to myself,  Doesn’t he know that a majority of the people who love this song happen to be females? Then it occurred to me that maybe this video was made to increase the male fan base or make Drake seem more hardcore and less “pop”. Even if this is the case, it makes little sense. Mr. West seems very proud of his work, posting news of its release on Facebook and his blog as if it were something worth being proud of. For those of you who have not seen the video, it features Drake coaching a team of porn-star looking women, running braless around a basketball court. This video is neither artistic nor comedic, not sure which one they were aiming for but the video is an epic fail. What was the moral of the story, that if you don’t practice anything but looking good you lose? Or that winning doesn’t matter if you look like the best? I’m really not sure if Mr. West put enough thought into this to attempt at providing a message or statement that says anything  but I like breasts. What do you think?

Well, this video is in the same parade of music vids that objectify women and continue to maintain patriarchal mindsets and actions.

Sad to say, I don’t even think this is news.

I just dont get the video. But I barely get the song (I thought I did until I saw the video). It’s not surprising that Kanye West was behind it. I mean, look at “Knock U Down”. That song makes no sense. Is it a good or bad thing to be “knocked down” by love? Kanye West is a weirdo. And this Drake video is dumb. LOL.

@Alissa, haha.i thought i was the only one who felt that way about knock you down.my last attempt at a meaning for that is “love can be good, love can be bad but life’s not worth living without it”

OK, i feel u.. they shouldn’t have built this up as being artistic

…but as a male I think this video is dope and am not ashamed to admit it.

Ya’ll think just cuz he is light skinned, he aint a hound… all men are dogs, always have, always will. LMFAO

@nudy, i feel you,if it was shirtless men stretching and working out i probably would have to pick up my jaw before i started ranting about what a piece of crap this video was, but that wouldn’t change the fact that the video sucks.

and as for the light skinned thing, i never thought or said he wasn’t just as much of a dog as the next man(of any color). i do know where you’re coming from though, people make weird(or what seem weird to me) assumptions about the degree of a person’s blackness and sometimes goodness by their skin tone.it’s not right but it is a reality.

Oh. My. God.

I think my IQ just dropped a few points…

This has to be the most unexpectedly, underwhelming, load of BS and Boobs that I have ever experienced in a music video. I had such high expectations for you, Drizzie. I really did. I had this whole video laid out in my head months ago. It was gonna be epic…. You effin up, dude.

Sidebar:
Music producer does not equal video producer. Somebody please never let Kanye near a storyboard or behind the camera again!

@CT, But actually, Ye has been directing videos…at least his videos…for a minute. And his joints are usually very artistic.

This…this isn’t artistic. But it IS a work of art. :-)

@Sean Walton, BUT… He never does it solo (correct me if i’m wrong on this). There is always another producer and director working with him.

@CT, Usually. I really don’t know which ones are solo, if any. But I think you’re right. Either way he has skill. And i think the direction of the video was good. The theme of it just didn’t go with the song, lol. I’ll agree, I expected something different. But um…this didnt disappoint me.

I mean it was shot well and all, but ultimately, it had nothing to really do with the song. I think in most people’s heads this video would have played out differently. This makes Drake look a bit too mainstream and “like everyone else” if you ask me. I love love love Drake and have for a long time now, but this was disappointing. The T&A is annoying, but my main issue is that it has no point. The “take that D part” was just plain stupid and served no purpose but to make him look crude.

Kanye tryna sabotage him. LOL

@JG*, “Kanye tryna sabotage him.” LMAO

You take that D like the Champions you are, lol. Ignorant…yet funny.

Yet it definitely sent a horrible message to young women. I have to throw that in, having two younger sisters.

But as a man, I have no problems with this video. It was entertaining.

@Sean Walton, Of course not. :) Like we were saying on Twitter, if it was a video of swole sweaty man, we wouldn’t have complained either. However, if it didn’t have anything to do with the song, and had no point, I’d still call it out for what it was.

But in the game, do you really “Take that D?” From now on, I will yell that out during NBA/NFL games. No more cheering “D-Fense D-Fense” LOL it’ll be KOBE! TAKE THAT D LIKE THE 4 TIME CHAMPION YOU ARE!

I was disappointed in this video not by the girls but by Kanye’s and Drakes creativity in this. I thought Drake was an actor too? Hmm but he still is my favorite rapper right now but he has to do something actually innovative like he says in his songs. “Slip up and shoot the wrong F&^ing video, and they feel they can market you anyway that they want to..”
Regardless most people that watch BET or MTV will still have this video being number 1. His buzz is too crazy right now.

This Vid was whoreable. Drake is what I’d call a Radio Star. He has the stage and performance presence of one of my daughters stuffed Elmo’s. He is a talented lyricist but that’s where it stops. My dude was so lifeless and boring. The vid was definitly “The Breast Ive Ever Had” and I’m sure 13 year old boys and up prolly will have crotch tents by the time they are done watching. But man this was far from artistic and I thought dude was a lil different. It doesn’t seem like his element. He’s a wealthy mixed kid from Canada. So he’s far from a G so maybe this is his angle. But he’d do better learning how to perform man. Period. The boy told a story with the song and all he needed the video to do was put it to the eye. It didn’t make sense. Especially the basketball. What?!? I felt a little stupider after watching it and realized why I dont do rap music.

I think its only one video. Lets allow him to have an entire body of work before we rush to judgment. He could come back with some Jesus Walks type videos after this one. Its a single off of a mixtape, they wanted to have a little fun with it. Its not like the song was that deep in the first place…how much could you really expect from the video?

With that said, I don’t like it for the way it portrays women, but that’s hip hop in general.

@Sean Walton,I agree with you both.drake is talented but this video left a lot to be desired but like sean said this is the first one so only time will tell what direction Drake is headed (god, knows this video doesn’t tell us).

@Sean Walton, Man Sean you know you’re my people man but I am a man with daughters. I see the unnatural affect that videos like these have on young men that causes us to have an unrealistic view of women. That is my issue with mainstream media in general is this here. But then again I come with a heavy Christian perspective that allows me to see the spirit behind these things so I can’t get deep with this on a thread. Hip hop or whatever it’s called will never get better. These images will only get worse as is the moralistic views of society. So I digress. Like my dude in “The Hangover” said “He’s acting like a ratard!’ HAHAHA so is rap music, MTV, BET, and all of the others.

I HATED this video!
I was so let down when I saw it!
I was expecting some “cute couple” scenario.
I feel like Kanye is just fooling around with expensive recording devices because he can, and nobody will/can tell him otherwise.
The worst part for me besides the obnoxious objectifying of women was the fact the the “tall girls” on the opposing team had to look extra gross, disgusting and unfeminine! Perhaps I take greater offense because of my tall stature. They couldn’t have hair and make up spruce them up a bit? They couldn’t cast actual runway models? (They’re tall AND beautiful)
I can imagine the eight year old me would comprehend: Short, big breast, long hair = beauty (which was anything but what I had at the time)

Everything about that video was wrong.
And why was Drake reviewing his plays on the stairwell?! (idk why this made me mad)
Nothing made sense.

This video was a FAIL in my book. If it was a career, it would be Jaleel White’s. Started with such great potential but crashed & burned into nothingness. I’m not gonna stand on a feminism soapbox bout the objectification of women b/c thats been said. It was just wacktastic all around.

Drake an his candle wax face need to go saddown and learn to turn down some ideas. No… just NO!

If I liked boobs, I’d LOVE this video. Saying as how the only two I ever want to see are the A cups that greet me each morning, this was a little bit much for me. It’s not so much the boobiture that bothers me. Its how underwhelming this is for an artist who has been SOOOOOO hyped up in the last few months. Drake needs to ditch Young Money and get a better machine to fuel his career. Otherwise, dude will be known as the Kwame Brown of the rap game.

wasn’t drake the one that said:

“shoot the wrong video and people think they can market you however they want too…” (or something to that effect)…

just because kanye west is involved doesn’t mean its going to be well received by everyone. i’m just sayin…

Maybe Drake can reshoot the video to please all those offended. But then again it’s just a video folks…..I’m not expecting a masterpiece or something that’s going to save the genre here. It does seem a lot of the women here are offended. Drake should have put a bunch of flat chested women and I wonder if the response would have been the same.

Reply

28 JG* July 13, 2009 at 2:19 pm

@Sekigahara, Not offended. Just more like.. This has nothing to do with the song. Random T&A just doesn’t make sense. If it were Uncle Luke I would be like Oh…. okay.. it’s Uncle Luke. In his songs, there’s no real way to make sense of what he’s even talking about so a random T&A video would fit.

well said jg.im no longer shocked by random t&a in rap videos, that ship sailed away along time ago.i’m just saying the video has no connection with the song.when i heard the song months ago braless bouncing dd’s were the last thing that came to mind, even basketball for that matter

Reply

30 SW July 13, 2009 at 2:40 pm

I’m not sure why people are offended beyond the DD’s. Because besides that, its just a regular music video. Regular song, regular video. Had he been romancing some chick the entire time, he would be pigeonholed as the new LL/Bow Wow/Fabolous. So Ye and Drake tried to do something a little different, just to NOT be put into a box.

If you think about it…Beyonce’s videos consist of her, two dancers, and a solid background…and nobody calls her videos “underwhelming”, lol.

@SW, Beyonce’s “Ego” video was DUMB as well as “Check On It” And I was thoroughly unimpressed by “Single Ladies” until I saw her perform at the American Music Awards. (We all know Beyonce can dance but a music video is not a concert.) Therefore, it’s not the *fake* Double D’s in Drake’s video that annoys me. It’s the fact that the music video doesn’t go with the song and that is a personal pet peeve of mine. You can’t just put together a video and throw any song on top of it.

Ya’ll sad, this video is great. He ain’t doing nothing but SCHOOLING you women. Just like the lies women tell men, “You The Best I Ever Had” he saying the same thing to women. If anything the video makes sense of the song. If you silly enough to believe everything a man tell you from jump street without getting to know him, then shame on you.

The messed up thing is that his team lost 14 to 91 and he was still telling them they’re the best … THAT is hilarious!

Other than that I’m not really surprised that there’s nothing but breast, breast & more breast. It’s a rap video. It’s not surprising when they’re nothing but mind numbing.
