I like her haircut. Fuck everybody else’s opinion. But seriously, other than Solo’s attitude, I like how she stays original, and true to her own style. Not too many people do that. Kudos girlie, and thanks for publicly rocking the natural ‘do. I have had one too many black mofos try to roast me on my 3C evil curls because I refuse to go the relaxer route.

@Cole B., I don’t think we would even be having this conversation if it was somebody white being bald headed? Matter of fact, I KNOW we wouldn’t as Sinead O’Connor does not stimulate the pulse of Young Black America c) TheFreshXpress. I pulled a couple quotes from other folks as well so please don’t victimize yourself. Stereotypes do come from everywhere, but why should we continue to further them with generalizations and comments such as “crunchy granola” or “fake”? Allow me to re-introduce my point: Long hair doesn’t mean you’re anti-black/brainwashed etc, Short hair doesn’t mean you’re gay Natural Hair (be it short or long) doesn’t mean crunchy granola, trying to be different, xyz. It means you either need to get a pony-tail holder for hot days, a hat for the winter or some awesome hair products for the everpresent humidity. Seriously. I really wish people wouldn’t make it something it’s not. Point. Blank. Period.

I must say that I definitely agree. She should be able to freely express herself without society always branding her as her sister’s shadow. I think she is wonderful and she had every right to snap back on her haters the way she did. Now only if her sister could stop swagga jacking and have half of the originality, then the world would be making some progress. Lol

I think she’s BEYOND FLY for doin’ it. Not everyone can pull it off, but she’s makin’ it work. I’m not on Twitter, so I haven’t seen the backlash, but people are always gonna have something to say. Doesn’t matter, though; she’s makin’ it work, and after a while of rockin’ it, it’ll be even more fly.

@Ms. Jackson, 1st of all I think we were ALL born with “short natural hair” as you put it. So that really means nothing. 2ndly I think you all know what I mean when I refer to “crunchy granola” black people, as if Solange hasn’t been trying SO hard to be seen as the musical and stylistic antithesis of her older sister. Everyone in their youth searches for a place where they find that they fit in. Many others try so hard NOT to fit it, that all they end up achieving is fitting in somewhere else. It’s a byproduct of our corporate consumer culture. Furthermore, and not to deny anyones so-called “individuality,” but stereotypes come from someplace. 3rdly, although I’m sure you won’t admit to this, I don’t think anyone would be snapping at me if we were all talking about Sinead O’Connor or somebody white being bald headed.
