A few days ago Michelle Duggar announced that she was pregnant with her 19th child. Yes, you read correctly 19th! All of the world was in joy when they made their announcement on television. Nineteen children. She even has a grandchild on the way as well. I’m all for a woman doing whatever she wants with her cervix, but I think they’re taking the concept of ‘going forth and multiplying’ a little too far.

As a mother of just 1 child, my mind can’t even begin to grasp the concept of having 18 more children running around the house. Apparently, the Duggar’s, because of their religious background, have opt out of using birth control. To each his own, I suppose. Birth control definitely has it’s pros and cons. I’m not even going to blame Michelle Duggar’s lack of birth control use or her husband’s apparent super sperm, I blame the media and networks like the Discovery Channel for giving out free shit to people who go forth and multiply.
Seriously, why can’t I get some free shit?
Do I really have to push out litters of children in order to live in a 3000+ square foot house? I truly don’t think that the Duggar’s make that much money from the commercial properties they own. If that was the case, why did the Discovery Network purchase them a house? I’m sure one of those commercial properties would have been large enough to hold all of them.
Then you have Octomom.

Who was apparently addicted to invitro. Everyone called her crazy and an unfit mother, because she went out and had all of those kids, without having the financial means to pay for them. As if the State of California didn’t have enough budget and financial issues, now they’re responsible for paying her medical bills. Give the woman a reality TV show, so she can pay her damn bills then!
What I find strange is that, no one is calling the Duggars unfit parents. In my opinion, parents who support the fact that their daughters can’t attend college, or take part in ‘male activities’, refuses pre-natal care and forces their children to take on ‘traditional’ ultra conservative gender roles, are quite unfit.
Last but not least, how can I forget about Jon & Kate Plus 8.

I’m not sure if they’re kids should be more embarrassed that their mother wears some odd looking mohawulletob (mohawk/mullet/bob), or the fact their father can’t seem to find anything to wear besides ugly a** Ed Hardy T-shirts. I truly think these kids more than likely will suffer from PTSD (post traumatic stress syndrome) once someone at TLC decides to cancel this train wreck of a show. I truly feel sorry for them. I even feel more sorry for John, because, he’s the oldest looking 32 year old man I’ve ever seen. Life has truly been hard on his aesthetics.
So there you have it, three very distinct situations, where apparently people are treating their cervix like the black hole and those tiny little circus clown cars. I guess as long as they can make a profit from their reproductive systems, they’ll keep on pushing out these babies. I’m just waiting for the first black family of multiples to get their own show. Hmmm…I won’t hold my breath on that one.

Maybe if Octomom and Duggar would have seen that black hole picture above they would’ve thought twice about all those kids…reason number 5789 why I dont have any yet, ewww!
I think there is a big difference between Michelle Duggar and Kate Gosslin and Octomom. One thing about the Duggars, they were already self-sufficient prior to a lot of the media coverage…no one had really even heard of them until they got around 14/15 kids. If you’ve ever watched their specials, their family unit is incredibly strong, they have an excellent system, and all of their kids seem remarkably well-rounded. They even built their current house as a family! Even with some of the free things they’ve received from the media, they still shop at Aldi’s, they still make the overwhelming majority of their clothes, and their attitudes about life and family have not changed since the very first time I saw them on television. It’s possible that I’m not quite as sensitive to them though because I went to school with lost of people whose parents were devout Catholics (the Duggars are Mormon) and had loads of children. Families with 9,11, even 13 children were not uncommon.
Kate Gosselin and Octomom are both highly media-driven individuals. I won’t go so far as to say that either person had their children specifically for the purpose of media coverage and free stuff, but they’re both milking it for all their worth. And you can’t really see how the children have benefited from any freebies in the least, meanwhile, Octomom has obviously had plenty plastic surgery, as has Kate Gosselin. Not to mention the hair stylists and the makeup artists, the personal trainers, etc. And I also notice that you rarely see Kate Gosselin with her children when you see picture of her on magazines…although obviously tabloids aren’t a reliable source of anything. Octomom is a CPS nightmare, because there’s just no way she can adequately provide basic needs for those kids: shelter, food, clothing, supervision, etc., and now that Kate Gosselin is single, she’s not far behind. Not to mention that Kate Gosselin seems like just generally a witch…it’s no wonder she’s getting a divorce..she dogged her husband big time.
I agree with Camielle, but the environmentalist in me can’t help but cringe at the thought of ALL of those children adn the impact they have. Some women still have large families today, usually poor women who are under-educated about their birth control options (I know, I know, they whould know better, but they don’t – or don’t act like it). More often than not, when women have knowledge and options, we choose to have smaller families (thank you feminism). So that we can invest more in those fw offspring. Plus, I can’t help but offer a kneww-jerk reaction to large families — “You got any land to farm? Why do you need all of those kids?”
