Dear Donnie McClurkin

Today’s latest victim is Donnie McClurkin, thee of “deliverance

from being gay.” He recently preached at a COGIC service and went into a long rant about the evils of being gay, calling gays “vampires.” I first read about this on Rod 2.0′s site. Read the article to give this letter some context so you can see some of the foolishness he said. I only put a couple of his quotes below.

Dear Donnie McClurkin,

You are the pot calling the kettle “Ne-Yo.” *Sigh* To say you need more people is such an understatement. You need the population of China. You’ve spoken of your past as a gay man, and have insisted that God has delivered you from your “affliction.” Yeah whatever. But then you’ve been going out of your way to make sure people don’t think you’re still gay by giving these homophobic speeches.

donniemcclurk

I see you giving a little bit of fierce. Accept it. Embrace it. Love it.

How do you call yourself a child of God when you’ve pissed on some of his children’s choices in such a manner IN the Lord’s house, talmbout “God did not call young people to such perversion. Society has failed him, his church has failed him … I would be homosexual to this day if Jesus hadn’t delivered.” Jesus: “O___o You ain’t gotta lie to kick it, son! Don’t put my name in your foolishness.”

Donnie, how about this novel idea? YOU’VE FAILED YOURSELF! Clearly, you’re feeling some kind of way to go on this passionate rant, when you know you’re talking about yourself. Everyone knows you haven’t been “delivered” from being gay. You’re acting like it’s some evil spirit that catches you and you have to be exorcised. You talking real sideways about my beloved gays (I heart them). Please SAT ALL THE WAY DOWN! You know for a FACT that you still love penis and ain’t no deliverance, sermon, church service, fast orholiday bazaar that’s gonna change that. This just sounds like some inner turmoil and it sounds like you’re losing.

According to this article, you even recently admitted to still having homosexual urges, saying “I don’t eat sugar, but it doesn’t mean that I don’t want sugar.” So sugar means penis now? Gotcha. Duly noted. And yes. Yes you do. Stop playing bald-headed games and telling bald-faced lies. You’s a LAH before God, Passa, the Ursher Board, the Deacon Board AND the Qwa (choir).

Fine whatever. You’re no longer gay *rolls eyes so hard I need Visine to get my pupils right again*. But you were doing THE MOST with this sermon of yours. Hypocrisy & self-hate, thy name is Donnie McClurkin. LET THE GAYS BE GREAT!

You know what? Naw, I ain’t gon lie for you. You like penis. This is fact. So you trying to overcompensate with your homophobic rants doesn’t hide this huge gaping pink elephant in the room. All I ask is that you love yourself (and your man).

Kthxbai,

Luvvie

P.S. *sings* “We fall down, but we get up!” *trips Donnie* A Saint is just a sinner who got up, Donnie. But you rolling on the floor acting a fool with your anti-gay slurs. Getcho ass up off that floor!

P.P.S. Oh, your exclusive “FOOL SADDOWN” gift basket is in the mail. I even threw in a “Love yourself” candy heart. Let me know when you get it. You’re welcome.

All I can say is Romans chapter 1. You people have put God so far from your knowledge that you can't see the perversion of homosexuality and all of the other sins. If you practice sin you are not one of God's children because in fact the book says "My sheep know my voice" and the voice of the Lord clearly in the word calls homosexuality an abomination and murder and fornication and adultery. No sin is greater than the other. That's a fact. But hey you probably listen to rappers that promote murder and drug dealing, so why am I surprised. You're probably practicing sin too. Where can I get a "FOOL SHUT UP" basket that I may send to the author of this stupid piece?

Thank you very much, Bible Thumper. Ye of closed-mind. Since I'm opposed to Donnie's extreme judgment, I surely must be a murderer O__o. Please sat ALL the way down & get a new line of defense. Everything you said is null and void. Tunnel vision is a BITCH!

Let those without sin cast the first stone. You don't agree with Luvvie then don't, last time I checked you didn't have to it was not a requirement. Just because you don't agree you need a " “FOOL SHUT UP” basket that I may send to the author of this stupid piece?" Really…hmmmm

@T-racey, You’re so full of shit, you’re turning MY eyes brown.

So you ADMIT to being a SHEEP as opposed to being a free thinking individual with the choice to believe in what you do? Is THAT why you fail to accept that other people are free thinking individuals who CHOOSE to believe otherwise? Phenomenal.

How do you say that no sin is greater than the other in one sentence, and then top it off with “homosexuality is an abomination?” In that case, isn’t shellfish the same, since (I think) Leviticus speaks of homosexuality AND shellfish being “abominations” in the same chapter?

This isn’t about homosexuality being a sin. This is about a man who insists on denying who he is in order to make money, and he’s throwing a whole class of people under the bus collectively and thinking it’s okay… and the community NOT being able to see and identify that as WRONG and DISGUSTING. And people like you who have NOTHING to stand on for themselves and BY themselves use this kind of bible thumping bullshit to justify being able to point your fingers at someone else and make yourself feel better.

I thought the bible said, “Love thy neighbor as thyself?” Should I treat you this way because of YOUR sins? You are absolutely disgusting.

But overall, I appreciate your comment. People hiding behind the bible and using it to further their own convoluted beliefs is tiring. I ish people could step from behind the Holy Book and quit twisting it to mean whatever they want it to mean on THAT day.

@T-racey,

Have you read the ENTIRE bible? You have to be a lobotomized blind hermit living in a cave to keep true to all the stuff you CAN’T do. So how do YOU do it? How do you pick and choose what rules to follow and when to follow them? Just wondering.

Here's my issue with Christians who judge homosexuality: Christians are supposed to be followers of Christ, correct? And no I'm not Christian but nine years in the Catholic school system taught me that Jesus was TOLERANT. He showed love to the those whom society had shunned such as Lepers and prostitutes. You know who he had NO love for? Hypocrites. I do recall an incident of Him turning over tables in the Pharasees' temple because their hypocrisy angered him so. So when I think about What Jesus Would Do in the company of homosexuals in modern times, I find it hard to believe that He'd throw shade of the Donnie McClurkin variety. He'd be more likely to let Donnie have it for throwing stones when he clearly lives in a glass house. Remember Jesus also said, "Judge not, lest ye be judged." I think THAT'S the passage folks need to pay more attention to.

I agree that Donnie is fool as shit, and needs to take a strong look in the mirror and ask the Magic Mirror Who's the Gayest of them all? Evangelist Donnie, the answer is you. If you are gay, then be the best gay person you can be. For him to stand in a pulpit and preach such hate is a sin. But hey that's his cross to bear not mine. I think at the end of the day, if you are not harming anyone wiith your actions and you are happy with you life that is what God wants from us. If you choose to live your life and love someone of the same-sex as your self then do it and love with all our heart as God has and will always love you. So many LGBTQ people out here are living with depression, suicidal thoughts and self hatred because they feel lost, unloved and unwanted, that's not how the Lord wants it to be. God is love. The church you is supposed to be the stormgate of God's kingdom and if that gate is rusted and raggedy because of hatred and the sins of the gatekeepers then it won't open to the Kingdom of Heaven. As a straight man, I believe that if you are truly LGBTQ you are born that way. But I also believe that some people are fake and phoney and do it for attention. I never woke up one morning and thought hey today i'm gonna like vagina, it was an inherent attraction that i went accepted and have no intentions of giving up my attraction to it. I think that real lesbians or gays have that same experience.

14 DeShaun November 16, 2009 at 1:36 pm

@Anthony,

my only question is if you believe you were born homosexual isn't that in essence saying God made a mistake? God created man and woman to be in union with each other. Sodom and Gommorah burned because of men sleeping with men and women sleeping with women among other sins. I have no problem with you being homosexual, because your final judgment rests with God. I have a ton of sins to atone for myself, so I don't want you to think I am being "holier than though." I just believe homosexuality is a product of free will. Sin is a product of free will. Lusting after someone of the same sex is the same as lusting after another man's wife. I am making a conscious choice in either respect, and to say I was born that way is a copout. If i said I'm a cheater because I was born that way no one would buy that argument.

Can I just say I have personally witnessed Mr. Donnies gay bashing. I had the wonderful oppourtunity to hear him and his choir sing at a local church in Richmond Va some time ago and out of nowwhere homegirl went into the RAGEING MAD RANT on homosexuals….I am a gay man however I do NOT feel God loves me any less…It is persons like this who have a public voice that causes the hatred amongst gay black men in society today…My only problem with those Ministers and Church clergy that go in on this topic is everyone says its wrong to be gay and its a sin and homosexuals are going to hell but nobody gives a solution, nobody lends a helping hand instead we are shunned out of the church when that is the first place we should be. IDK Donnie M is a t all in himself

I don’t have an opinion yet on whether I think Donnie McClurkin is gay or not. However, I see this happen a lot. A Christian makes a condemning comment like the one above and then other Christians and non-Christians alike jump on them for being hypocritical and not tolerant and being condemning… while at the same time being hypocritical and non tolerant and condemning.

For us to jump on this T-racey person because of her comment and call her a “bitch” isn’t really the way to go. Also, we just ignored the rest of her comment which actually had some base. The bible does clearly say that homosexuality is wrong. If we’re going to debate the topic at hand, let’s focus on the facts, not the manner in which she portrayed them.

I believe this debate turns on the mutability of a person’s sexual orientation. One side claims it to be congenital while the other claims it can be configured. Personally, I am not homosexual, and have no idea how a person comes to be that way. And since I have no idea, I believe a person when they tell me that is how they were born.

And for those who strictly interpret the doctrine of the Bible, how do you reconcile God’s passivity towards slavery, and even open encouragement of killing? After all, David was a man after God’s own heart. And his body count was higher than Nino Brown, Tookie Williams, Monster Cody, and C-Murder all put together.

Reply

25 DeShaun November 16, 2009 at 1:42 pm

@Alvin,

First off you can't just look at slavery generically. Slavery in biblical times was nothing like slavery experienced in 18th-19th century. Slavery in the Bible for the most part was more a system of indentured servitude.

Secondly, just because someone is a "man of God's own heart" doesn't mean he will strictly follow God's will. Humans are born with free will . It's funny you want to take these two generic examples as a means to disprove the Bible. Seems like that is basically the pot calling the kettle black.

christianity is definitely a controversial issue that we all can go back and forth about. With everyone’s own interpretation of the bible, we come across statementst that are biased and judgemental.

@ T-Racey: the only thing that I agree with you on is that no sin is greater than another. By Donnie being gay or not, it doesnt give any of us the right to judge him. Now if he decides that he doesnt want to be gay anymore and then bashes gays, yes that is wrong because as a man of God, he should not putting anyone down, because he should know that we are all God’s children. In God’s eyes, Donnie being gay isnt worse than him gay bashing and him gay bashing isnt any worse than us calling each other out of our names and disrespecting one another. Whatever your religious beliefs are, we all need to learn how to be open minded and to listen to each other while still being able to hold firmly onto our own beliefs and not being swayed. that is what is important. T-Racey, when I first read your comment, I immediately wanted to lash out on you, but I didnt because you are free to say how you feel, right? just like the author is free to say what she feels. None of us can judge the next woman/man for what they feel and believe. T-Racey, I dont know how you were taught and what you were taught, but you were taught differently than me. Sinning began with Adam and Eve and is inevitable. Jesus died for our sins because He knew we would sin. So for you to say that we are not God’s children because we sin is false and my GOD never said that. I pray that you further seek more clarity on the Word of God and how He feels about His children, because you are missing some very valid details and points that are critcal when it comes to christianity. Comments like yours deter people from knowing Christ because they feel they are being judged and that they must be sinless in order to be accepted in His eyes.

Wow…This is a serious conversation. I am really quite tired of the conversation about christians being the only ones bashing gay and homosexual activity. Please people be careful of what you say and how you say it Christians and non-Christians alike. There were a lot of good points on this blog from both sides. My observation is though that when ONE professed christian states an opinion and says some things that people don’t like, then others in opposition go ham on that person. While accusing them of being a horrible person for their words while at the same time doing the same thing in excess. I am a Christian and I grew up in a C.O.G.I.C. church so I was taught that homosexuality is a sin just as any other sin. In my youth I very homophobic but not so much because of my church up bringing but it was not accepted in the hood, at school, in music, and many other secular areas. I was taught by my family and my church that everyone has a soul regardless of what they struggle with, be it homosexuality, adultery, lying or fornication. I have heard Brother McClurkin’s testimony on a number of occasions and I have seen the video in question, and I think that people should really take a look at it and analyze it for themselves, he is simply tallking about his experience and how it changed the course of his life. In all of this it has not been mentioned in this post how this Brother was molested as a child and taken advantage of by men & women in his surroundings at church and at home. Many of the young brothers & sisters I met growing up who struggled with their sexuality had a similar experience. I am not saying this is always the case but as the Brother @DeShaun said sexuality comes down to free will. I am a straight man but if I woke up tomorrow and decided to be gay I can do so because it’s my choice. Just as if one had a sexual desire to sleep with a woman other than their said wife or husband they make the choice to do so even though it is wrong. the difference between what you desire and how you act on it is a choice. The act of sex in it’s most basic state is for reproduction, that can only happen between a man and a woman. This in no way is to bash any homosexual, I am just saying that it’s most basic forum this subject comes down to sexuality and choice to act on it. As Christians and Non-Christians there are ways to disagree and be civil. Brother McClurkin In my opinion wasn’t bashing gays or even calling them perverts I believe he is more talking about his personal experience and SIN as a whole and it’s perversion of the gospel of the bible. I think he can speak on the subject because he lives with it, he is just being honest, he found something wrong with the lifestyle he was living and decided to make a change, that should be looked at and studied before we make judgments. If I were a blood but decided to give up that lifestyle, I would be praised by some and despised by others but it would be a personal choice made. His comment on Tonex I believe goes beyond the homosexual confession. That is a different conversation. Don’t want to offend my brothers and sisters gay or straight, Christian or Non-Christian, but know him (God) for yourself he loves you no matter what. Just as a mother loves their child and will not always like what you do, and when you do wrong will punish you. He is the ultimate judge and everyone will have to answer to him. Please be careful what you say and how you say it people Words do hurt.

@M_Shorts, i can completely respect your opinion, however i would like to respectfully disagree ( which i know you wont mind * wink) i can understand the hardships donnie went thru but please understand that eventhough some things are secular, they still have influences that stem from the church. i was not raised in a religous houeshold but always heard something about church and even went from time to time. Some people dont realize just how strong of an influence the black church has. with that being said there are too many black men that think that homosexuality is soo bad that they keep it to themselves and are not very versed in the ettiquete that goes along with this life style.By Donnie going on like he did, that is just going to make it that much harder for a teen listening to come forth and be true to himself , and to deepen the denial of the husband sitting next to his wife and 3 children. and thats not fair! i was raised by 3 gay men (+my mom,and grandma and older brother). i am 24 years old and i learned everything that a child should know. i have not nor will i ever have sex with a women… just never occured to me to do so ( the same is true for my bro as well). i am also buddhist. i love bieng a buddhist because it allows me to think for myself. i dont violently disagree with anyones religion but only wish that the world were a bit more open minded but i digress… I think that to treat homosexuality as something that can be put aside and changed is wrong. if you were truely homosexual then there would be no way to change that because you would only be untrue to yourself and just make yourself unhappy and theres isnt any god who would want you to do that… thats like saying "hey! being black is wrong!! you should do something about that!" o yea that did happen… well you see where that got us! i just think that they should focus on more pressing issues,being gay isnt going to unite the black community or feed hungry children… im just saying

p.s. sorry for the grammatical errors trying to post this while working!

@Kimmi, Hey Kimmi, I am never opposed to good conversation. Thanks you for commenting back, and no I am not offended and I definitely don’t mind you disagreeing. I to respect your opinion as well, you make some good points. I guess it comes down to perception and experience. I to don’t violently disagree with anyone else religion, and although I was raised Christian I was always taught to think for myself. I also think the common goal for all religions and beliefs are for the most part one in the same, Love and respect for mankind. No one in a pulpit, classroom, or any other social platform has ever thought for me. That’s not to say I don’t value the wisdom and knowledge of those said people, but at the end of the day I have to and have thought for myself in making any of the decisions in my life. You are right the influence of the black church is heavy in our community, probably not as heavy as it used to be though. Pastors and leaders of these organizations have a great burden to carry and a great responsibility. Unfortunately some take advantage of this great platform. I don’t think this was necessarily the case with Donnie. But it’s not just the Christians, Many other religions and organizations don’t readily accept the lifestyle. I to have known people who were raised by homosexual parents and are not gay, but I also know of some that were raised and became that way because it was a learned behavior or not (IDK). As far as it being an issue of Gay being compared to being black…well that is another convo. I will say this though, when I walk outside, the world will know whether I am black or not. it is common knowledge because it cannot be hid. If they never know what or who I choose to be with romantically, they will see that I am black. All in all I definitely value your opininion and in the aspect that this should not be a main focus who is gay or not, but about feeding the world and less fortunate and protecting our children, you are right. I think what we see in many of these cases is that our children are being taken advantage of, and exposed to much more than even i was as a child and I am only 26. In both the cases of Donnie McClurkin and Tonex both have admitted to being molested as youth. This is a bigger issue than any in my opinion, because it happens way to often and some children end up dead as in the tragic case of Shania the 5 year old who’s mother sold her into prostitution and death. I could talk about that for days because I have a 4 year old son and I get fearful of the World for him. So although this prompted some crazy convo, hopefully we can see and acknowledge the bigger picture and save our children. Peace Kimmi and thanks! @JClancy thanks homie.

I actually saw Donnie McClurkin in 2007 at a Memphis airport after he denounced his gayness. He was being accompanied by someone that I assumed was his assistant–a slim light skinned male. I don't know if Donnie is gay, but I'm almost positive his "assistant" was…

It’s irrelevant if I once upon a time knew Donnie. Fact: I know too many pulpit pastors with same sex secrets(SSS) . And yes, I’ve dated a few pastors, slept with a few and been in a few long-term monogamous relationships too. I was once a sang’n choir boy turned professional who traveled continents.

Donnie, Rev. DL Foster and others who are professed ex-gays are fooling no one! Black church folks know God doesn’t really change sexual orientation. I know first hand these pastors will hoodwink you and your mama as long as the invites and checks keeps coming.

I told a gay COGIC pastor to simply give it up, if he’s so unhappy. He said, “I can’t – that’s all I know.” I eventually relinquished the relationship because he knew all about church but very little about himself. Today, he remains behind the pulpit – tormented. That’s why Donnie’s message was useless; it caused more harm by pushing gay, lesbian, bi and questioning congregants and officials deeper undercover (DL).

Saints, I know what I’m talking about!!! This ain’t speculation, or pontification – it’s conclusive, creditable, and confirmed. After I began the road of self actualization, I kept singing and taking your money but eventually let it all go. I stopped fooling you and me.

Because I’m self-actualized: have realistic perceptions of myself, others and the world around me ( that same something Bishop Carlton Pearson discovered). I let it ALL go! I’m a Humanist! I didn’t believe in what I was sing anymore. Yes, I miss all the stage, show, fun and parties, but I’ll gladly hand it over for my total self awareness.

I wish more gay church folk would take the first step toward self-actualization: remove themselves and their money from the church that spew vile rhetoric against homosexuals. That’s when life really begins.

Satan is a liar from the beginning. He is the father of lies. He is the master of deception. The righteous will always be persecuted for their choice to stand for godliness. The word of God says repent, and be baptized. If any man(Donald McClurkin SR.) be in Christ he is a new creature. The issue that Satan and his followers have with this man(Donald McClurkin Sr) is obvious. This man has chosen to abandon a life of perversion and follow Christ Jesus. Believe me if he were still in homosexuality Satan would be rejoicing and he would have no reason to attack him. Now it is clear that Donald didn't call those kids vampires. Yet I understand how you can misinterpret his words it's because of your inability to hear what the spirit of the Lord is saying to the church because the only word he has for you is REPENT! Oh but you fail to believe that your homosexuality is a sin. His past is real those of us who have been redeemed have one. Donald McClurkin is a son of God who will continue to preach about sin and reveal the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It's exactly what he did that night and will continue to do and Satan and all of his kingdom will feel the blow everytime Donald gets a microphone. Souls will be delivered from the grip of Satan.

PS. I want you to know that Donald McClurkin Sr. is all Man. 100% Your problem with Donald is that your angry he's free and YOU KNOW HE"S FREE. Now Where can I send you the Jesus is love but he doesn't love wickedness, So choose this day whom your going to serve basket?

People on this comment page claiming rights to not judging while making judgements on those who do.
