In my opinion, it's OK to reach out to someone that can be helpful to your career, lifestyle, personal endeavors, etc. There has to be some level of integrity though. In other words, be willing to stretch yourself beyond that single motive and work to build a meaningful relationship. No one likes a one-sided engagement so you have to bring something to the table. Also, you have to be willing to reciprocate when someone reaches out to you.  I struggle with this quite a bit.
