Since the launch of TheFreshXpress.com in January 2009, many young African-Americans have been inspired and powered to contribute fresh thoughts and perspectives on a number of issues affecting the African-American community. On Friday, February 19, TheFreshXpress.com celebrated its first anniversary in style – debating and partying it up at 595 North Event Venue and Lounge. Appropriately titled Fresh Forward, guests rocked the hottest fashions and networked with other young professionals in the arenas of politics, entertainment, community, and fashion.
Hosted by the Extraordinary League, a conglomerate of professional gentleman in Atlanta, the event was centered around bringing FreshXpress to life. If you live in Atlanta and have been to Intellectual Tuesdays, the premiere event by Extraordinary League, then you know the conversations were engrossing. We did more than just party. FXP Managing Editors Alissa Griffith and Jenifer Moore were on site conducting on-camera interviews to get guests’ fresh perspectives on various issues affecting young black America.
Targeted towards young adults ages 21-35, the site seeks to utilize the immense cultural influence and power of this demographic to become the leading voice of young African-Americans nationwide. In September 2009, theFreshXpress.com won three Black Weblog awards (Best New Blog, Best Culture Blog, and Blog to Watch) within eight months of inception.
“FXP has come a long away over the past year. Its a movement that is completely powered by the people. Seeing every one come out and support Fresh Forward Atlanta is very encouraging, and is a microcosm of the overall support FXP receives across the nation”, said CEO Sean Walton, Jr.
The month of February welcomed great things for the FreshXpress team with the re-launch of its newly designed website, celebrating a year of success and the introduction of its auxiliary organization, The Fresh Forward Project. The Fresh Forward Project (FPP) is the non-partisan political action and philanthropic arm of FreshXpress. It is dedicated to the progression of social and political consciousness in the African-American community by hosting open forums across the nation.
TheFreshXpress.com, dubbed “THE pulse of young Black America,” is a collection of free thinkers and individuals that have come together to give voice to a nation of young African Americans. Founded by Sean L. Walton Jr., Arlen Herrell and Kevin Breckenridge, the inspiration for the website came from the debates and conversations between the three centered on issues concerning America and the African-American community.
