When President Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize in early October of 2009 many supporters and naysayers alike were stunned that he won such a top honor so early into his presidency. Even more important, everyone wanted to know what he was going to do with the $1.4 million that went along with the prestigious medal. Now we know.

According to Black Voices.com:

Several very worthwhile charities will benefit from the $1.4 million award that comes with the prize, including six groups that help kids get to college, Haitian relief efforts and the place where soldiers killed overseas are returned to.

“These organizations do extraordinary work in the United States and abroad helping students, veterans and countless others in need,” Obama said in a statement. “I’m proud to support their work.”
