Greetings,
In just under three years, FXP has made great progress against its original mission of bringing the voice of young Black America into the mainstream by providing commentary and insight on the issues that are impacting us every day.
We have facilitated over 300 different writers and bloggers, contributing and bringing together fresh perspectives on real issues, in real time. We have had over 3 million hits and the the pleasure to hear your feedback on how the social commentary on our site has been beneficial and added value to your lives.
We appreciate the immense support over the past few years. Whether its been the website or the events we’ve hosted throughout the country, we feel that we’ve had the opportunity to make an impact. When we started out that’s all we hoped for – the chance to offer a forum for young Blacks throughout the country to talk about real issues. We didn’t always know what we were doing, especially starting out, but with your support we were able to build a reputable brand. Your support challenged us to push to improve our product everyday. We thank you for that.
You may be wondering what has been going on with the site for the last few weeks. We know and appreciate that you have come to expect us to deliver quality content. We have spent time evaluating our progress and devising plans to ensure that FXP remained “Fresh” and innovative. This is why we have decided that instead of putting forth a mediocre product going forward, we’d rather cease operations until we are confident in our plans to take FXP to the next level.
This does not mean that we will not continue forward in the industry. We are not retiring. Instead, we are reevaluating our approach to things in an effort to become industry leaders, rather than merely players. We want to deliver nothing but the best to you.
Personally, I understand the value that a website such as theFreshXpress brings. Starting out I recognized the need, and through all of your messages and comments I realized that this has the potential to be something great. For that reason, I can’t let us venture into mediocrity. Sometimes you have to take a step back to move forward, and that’s where we’re at. I want to build something great, and I’d rather step back at the height of our popularity than run the risk of not putting forth a quality product in the short term.
While pondering this move, a quote from W.E.B. DuBois helped to put everything into perspective for me:
“The most important thing to remember is this: To be ready at any moment to give up what you are for what you might become.”
With that said I again than you for your support, and ask that you sign up for our mailing list to be kept in the loop on any future endeavors from us.
Thank you.

Y’all reassessing like Herman Cain :0) I do understand the need to put out the very best and I support that. I’m glad you posted this update because I was getting ready to play the Boyz II Men version of “It’s so hard to say good bye to yesterday”. I might have even gone old school and played the original from Cooley High. I’m hoping FXP comes back twice as strong when it’s ready. I’ve seen several sites featuring black(ish) writers recently go belly-up at least temporarily. The conspiracy brother in me started to wonder :0)
I’m going to miss reading the articles daily. This a really informative site for those that can’t watch the news daily. Your site covered politics, love, and music. I’m going to miss you guys. Subscribing now and best wishes with the progress of the brand.

I always thought this place could be so much better than it was. Good luck with that.
I co-sign with Black Yoda on all points!! (Still laughing about the “Cooley High” comment. omgggg. Hilarious). I love this site. It’s a breath of fresh air to have a space to connect, politic, laugh and debate with other young, educated Black folk from all over the world. Also, thanks for publishing some of my pieces. Much love for that ;o)
Whatever the next step is, I’m so there. In the meantime, I’ll amble around the site. I’m pretty sure there are numerous articles (and LIVE comment sections) that I’ve missed over the months and ?years? Besos…
Site sucked anyway, Sean Walton
I miss the Fresh Xpress! Although I can agree that this site could have been better, what site cant? There is so much going on here by way of connection that it really became an invaluable forum for many of us. Hurry up and get back to work! LOL. Peace!
